Garden Obsessed Traveler

The month of August and the beginning of the school year is the end of summer travel for some of us.  However the garden obsessed traveler only requires a long weekend to relax and cater to their obsession.  I am fortunate that my family likes to indulge their garden obsessed traveler and we incorporate visits to beautiful gardens with our weekend getaways.

A recent trip to nearby South Carolina took us to several cities and gardens.  Here ia a glimpse at our itinerary and our family's recommendations.

South Carolina Botanical Gardens (Clemson)  Depending on your schedule, spend an hour or a day among 295 acres of endless beauty.  A must see is the Hydrangea Collection at it's best from May to September.  After leaving Clemson we detoured to Greenville for the night.  Although we did not tour any gardens here, Furman University's grounds are beautiful.

Brookgreen Gardens (Murrells Inlet)  This 9,000-acre property has America's largest outdoor sculpture collection.  Tours by boat and bus are also an added attraction. There are also evening concerts during the summer on select nights.  See the website for details.

Our final stop was Charleston which is a regular day trip for us thru out the year.  In the past we have visited Magnolia Plantation & Gardens and Middleton Place.  This trip we decided to stroll downtown after a visit to College Of Charleston.  In this city you can create your own garden tour.  Enjoy the rest of your summer.
